Students from the Formulation Chemistry major in ITECH Lyon’s Master of Engineering in Applied Chemistry have made their mark in the 2024 edition of the Prix Jeunes pour l’Innovation (Young Innovators Prize), organized by France Chimie. Their innovative project, aimed at renovating worn-out rugby balls, earned them third place in the competition. The prize recognizes engineering student projects that combine technological innovation with sustainability.
The award-winning project proposes a solution to extend the lifespan of rugby balls by developing a texturizing varnish that restores grip, thus reducing plastic waste in the sports sector. This initiative is fully aligned with the school’s commitment to sustainable development.
The project was spearheaded by students Marine Brossy, Emeline Renahy, Carla Odetto, and Théo Fels, under the guidance of their tutor, Jean-Pascal Philibert, a faculty member at ITECH Lyon.
The winners also had the opportunity to meet with representatives from partner companies to discuss CSR strategies and sustainable growth, providing them with valuable insights for their future careers.
This success highlights the ongoing commitment of ITECH Lyon students, who continue to demonstrate that innovation and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
